 River Keeper Program:

The Au Sable North Branch Area Foundation (ANBAF), in keeping with its purpose and mission has adopted and is creating a River Keeper Program that will provide a continuing benefit to the North Branch.  We have enlisted a number of volunteer River Keepers to assist with this endeavor; For more information or questions you may have, please contact Eric Bankhead at (989) 348-6704.


Projects and Accomplishments:

  • Restoration of DNR fish structures
  • Planting of willows and cedars along the river
  • Adoption of Natural Rivers Act
  • Placement of large woody debris to improve trout habitat
  • Support adoption and enforcement of wise zoning ordinances
  • Conduct stream bank erosion surveys & remediation
  • Adoption of a North Branch Watershed Management Plan
  • Development of a River Keeper Program
  • Wildlife habitat enhancement

The foundation works with other local and state organizations such as the Department of Natural Resources, Huron Pines, Anglers of the AuSable, Trout Unlimited, The National Wild Turkey Federation and the AuSable River Watershed Restoration Committee to promote the wise use and conversation of the North Branch area’s natural resources.
